May chang oil is made from the fruit of the tropical Litsea cubeba tree, which belongs to the Lauraceae family. The plant is native to China, but is also found in other Asian countries (including Indonesia and Taiwan). Due to its remarkable properties, may chang is called "the oil of peace". It is characterized by a light, fresh, but sweet and warm fragrance with delicate musky notes. It may remind one of lemongrass, but is slightly milder, but also more complex.
The main ingredient of the oil is citral (up to 85%), which is responsible for antimicrobial properties - it perfectly deals with bacteria. It exhibits anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which anyone with combination, oily or acne-prone (or in any way problematic) skin is sure to appreciate. It perfectly cleanses, tones and regulates sebum secretion without over-drying the skin.
May chang oil can reduce the severity of coughs and relieve the symptoms of mild infections (such as the common cold) - at least the respiratory ones - it decongests, refreshes and energizes.
