Black pepper oil is obtained from the fruit - or better - dried berries of a plant called Piper Nigrum L., which belongs to the pepper family (Piperaceae). Although pepper originated in India, today it is cultivated in most tropical countries. The fragrance of the oil is surprising, as it does not have so much in common with the well-known spice at all. Although the aroma is somewhat pungent, you can detect distinct woody and musky notes - the oil, contrary to appearances, is very warm and perfectly adds depth to other fragrances.
The oil contains several medicinal ingredients, and their properties can be used every day. Noteworthy is the strong antimicrobial effect, it is a natural and effective remedy that prevents infection of small wounds, abrasions and scratches. Volatile compounds contained in the oil have an antibacterial and antiviral effect - it is worth taking advantage of this during aromatherapy, especially during respiratory infections (for example, in the form of a warming bath).
Black pepper oil is also used in cosmetics - and not as rarely as you might think. It exhibits antioxidant activity, so it protects against the negative effects of free radicals. It is also found in the composition of products against insects, as it is a good repellent.
It is also known in aromatherapy and is famous for its energizing properties. It is a great addition to a massage after a hard day or an intense workout. It relaxes muscles, warms up and improves blood circulation. It can prove helpful in the course of many common conditions, such as arthritis and rheumatism. Black pepper oil used in aromatherapy will stimulate, sharpen concentration and improve memory, but it is worth remembering that the product should not be used before bedtime - it can make it difficult to fall asleep.
