Elemi essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the oleoresin of the tropical Canarium luzonicum tree. The raw material is found inside the bark and is produced as long as the tree is healthy and has leaves. Elemi comes from the Burseraceae family, the same family that includes frankincense and myrrh oils - they share many properties and benefits, as the long history of use in cosmetic and medicinal products certainly shows.
Elemi essential oil is a product rich in monoterpenes, which are largely responsible for its properties. It supports the body during infections, especially those involving the upper respiratory tract, relieving persistent coughs and cold symptoms.
