Hedgehog soplolly is a species of fungus that is found in old deciduous forests; it is called lion's mane because of its appearance. Like other medicinal Asian mushrooms, soplolly is rich in polysaccharides.
Hedgehog soplolly (Hericium erinaceus) although known worldwide it can be found under various names - Hericium, Monkey's Head, Lion's Mane, Hou Tou Gu, Lion's Mane and others. It is distinguished by its delicate, slightly sweet taste and was much used by Chinese herbalists hundreds of years ago. Lion's Mane mushroom contains many nutrients that determine its beneficial effects on the body - it is a source of amino acids, polysaccharides and many minerals.
