Wintergreen essential oil is a product extracted from the leaves of the shrub golteria rozesłana (Gaultheria procumbens), native to the wild forests of North America. Despite its name and characteristic scent, the plant does not belong to the same botanical family as mint - goltheria procumbens belongs to the heather family. Historical records prove that the shrub was commonly used to treat respiratory ailments. Since then, things have changed a bit - both in terms of properties and use.
Wintergreen essential oil has a complex composition, but the most important substance is methyl salicylate, which resembles aspirin in scope. The product exhibits anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, and can be applied topically to relieve muscle, joint or back discomfort. The extract brings a feeling of coolness and soothing, gently anesthetizes. It fights the symptoms of respiratory tract infections, eases breathing and nullifies airborne microorganisms.
Wintergreen oil improves the condition of the skin, relieves irritation, excessive dryness, as well as other bothersome and unpleasant symptoms of dermatological problems. It shows antiseptic activity, so it is recommended for acne-prone skin. Used in the bath refreshes the skin, stimulates the senses and stimulates the body's immunity.
It relieves tension, stress and exhaustion. It enhances sensory perception, adds energy, provides a sense of balance and promotes concentration. Although applied topically it has a cooling effect, the aroma is considered warming. It combines mint with sweet, slightly woody notes to create a perfectly harmonious composition with many health benefits.
