Description

Soda ash is a simple compound that has been used in life for thousands of years. It is an ingredient in basic everyday products used in many homes. The substance has much in common with the well-known baking soda, although it differs slightly in its properties. Baking soda is slowly regaining its former popularity - it is not only effective, but also environmentally friendly - an increasingly important aspect for many consumers. The product is safe and can be used in all rooms - the number of applications really is impressive.

Soda ash - composition and properties

Soda ash is the common name for sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), an inorganic chemical compound found naturally in nature. It consists of a salt of carbonic acid and sodium in the form of a white, odourless powder. It is characterised by its high hygroscopicity and solubility. The product has an important place in the metallurgical, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

Soda ash is primarily used as an all-purpose cleaning agent that can easily replace many commercial preparations.

Calcined soda - uses

Soda ash will come in handy during minor and major clean-ups. There are many tried and tested natural recipes for using the product during cleaning:

  • to remove grease and dirt from kitchen cloths: combine 2 cups of baking soda and 2 litres of hot water, soak for about 30 minutes
  • to restore the shine of cutlery: mix 3 litres of hot water and half a cup of soda ash in a dish lined with aluminium foil and place the cutlery inside. After 15 minutes, rinse and polish
  • for general surface cleaning: mix 1 tablespoon of soda ash and 2 cups of warm water in an atomiser bottle, shake before use
  • for floor cleaning: half a cup of soda ash for every 4 - 5 litres of water

The product can also be used in the bathroom. Cleaning with soda ash is easy, quick and very economical, which will certainly help to keep things tidy on a daily basis. The main reason for its popularity is that it is ideal for use in the laundry - it softens water and helps remove stubborn stains, and can also be used in two ways:

  • for washing: half a cup of baking soda will ensure that detergents work better
  • before washing: soaking clothes in a bowl filled with warm water with 1/4 cup of soda ash will help remove tough stains

It is important to note that soda ash will not work on all types of surfaces. The product should not be used on wood, laminate, aluminium and fibreglass.
