Amyris oil is extracted from the wood and smaller twigs of the amyris tree (Amyris balsamifera L.) in the rutaceae family (Rutaceae). It takes up to a year before it goes on sale, during which the oil acquires the right aroma and consistency. The scent is very warm, woody, sometimes sweet with cedar notes. It is characterized by a long shelf life. It may resemble the aroma of sandalwood oil, but it is not the same product. The differences are significant, both in composition and effect.
Amyris oil contains a compound called elemol (about 9% of the composition), which has strong repellent properties. Studies have confirmed that it repels ticks and other insects. It is a great natural alternative to ready-made products.
The oil also includes valerianol (up to 21%, and this is the highest concentration right after valerian oil), which is known for its calming properties. It relaxes, eliminates stress and introduces a good atmosphere. It is recommended in aromatherapy, especially for people who struggle with chronic nervous tension and anxiety. There are no contraindications to using the oil in a diffuser, a traditional aromatherapy fireplace or during inhalation.
