Black pepper oil is obtained from the fruit - or better - dried berries of the plant called Piper Nigrum L., which belongs to the pepper family (Piperaceae). Although pepper originated in India, today it is cultivated in most tropical countries. The fragrance of the oil is surprising, as it does not have so much in common with the well-known spice at all. Although the aroma is somewhat pungent, distinct woody and musky notes can be detected - the oil, contrary to appearances, is very warm and perfectly adds depth to other fragrances.
Black pepper oil contains several healing ingredients and its properties can be used every day. Noteworthy for its strong antimicrobial action, it is a natural and effective remedy that prevents infection of minor wounds, abrasions and scratches. The volatile compounds in the oil have an antibacterial and antiviral effect - it is worth taking advantage of this during aromatherapy, especially during respiratory infections (e.g. in the form of a warming bath).
Black pepper oil is also used in cosmetics - and not as rarely as you might think. It exhibits antioxidant properties and therefore protects against the negative effects of free radicals. It is also used in products against insects, as it is a good insect repellent.
It is also known for its antioxidant properties.
It is also known in aromatherapy and is renowned for its energising properties. It is a great addition to a massage after a hard day or an intense workout. It relaxes muscles, warms up and improves blood circulation. It can prove helpful in the course of many common conditions, such as arthritis and rheumatism. When used in aromatherapy, black pepper oil will stimulate, sharpen concentration and improve memory, but it is worth remembering that the product should not be used before bedtime - it can make it difficult to fall asleep.
